Nearly 50 seniors made the most of a stress-free but event-filled weekend at the Ramada Grand Caymanian Resort, part of the Older Persons Month calendar.
The 7-10 October weekend kicked off on Thursday with dinner, fellowship and a social gathering. Seniors from each district performed and were entertained – and there was even a pyjama party!
Other weekend activities included a treasure hunt; a Camana Bay movie date; a ‘shopping on a budget’ contest at the Strand Foster’s Food Fair; table games; worship at the John Gray Memorial Church and a lunch at Champion House.
“Anyone who missed this retreat lost out on a great time!” declared senior Jane Ramoon. She added, “It was nice that we could come together to share and catch up on old times.”
Retreat organizer, Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Community Development Coordinator Zemrie Thompson said that the weekend was specifically aimed at giving seniors quality time, a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
“We scheduled fun events to get everyone involved. It turned out to be a really positive interlude and the seniors were able to bond with each other,” she said.
The grand finale was the Saturday evening reception at the Ramada. The seniors enjoyed a sumptuous meal and went on to dance the night away. Entertainment was provided by Clive Bennett and Keisha Webb who both performed solos, and DJ Blemo Ross.
Agape Worship Centre Pastor Al Ebanks blessed the gathering and guest speaker, Minister of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing the Hon. Mike Adam, MBE, JP urged the company to take time out to forget their troubles and to seek spiritual renewal.
He also reminded them that many people care about their welfare and are always looking out for their interests.
DCFS Director Deanna Look Loy was also on hand to encourage the seniors to regularly take time for themselves and to strengthen connections with families and other contemporaries.
Educational and information presentations were made by Adult Educator Maureen Hazle and HSA Genetics Coordinator Joy Merren.
