On Friday (8 October) daycare clients and residents of the West Bay Golden Age Home and Day Centre intently watched the Antonio Banderas action-packed movie, The Mask of Zorro.
This special treat was provided by West Bay-based Royal Cayman Island Police Service (RCIPS) officers. Snacks were provided by the district’s Treasure Chest Bakery and the officers.
Constable Sharon Baillie who spearheaded the showing along with Inspector Brad Ebanks explained that the movie day was the police’s effort to reach out to the community. She said that connecting with senior residents is especially important during Older Persons Month.
“The concept of community policing means strengthening our relationships with the public. We want to build trust and let people see that we are approachable,” said Ms. Baillie.
Golden Age Senior Community Care Worker Glenna Boase-Dyette commented, “We welcome this kind gesture by the police officers. “It’s good for our clients to know that people in the community are thinking of them.”
The Golden Age Home is operated by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
Adult Special Needs Programme Supervisor Dawn Rankine said she was happy to see the involvement of the West Bay Police Department with the Golden Age Home.
“The officers also visit regularly to check on the well-being of the clients and staff of the home, which we appreciate very much,” she said..
