In a gesture that bridged the generation gap, a group of young persons last week (24 March) made a generous donation to benefit the Islands’ seniors.
Rotaract Blue Club members donated $5500 to assist in outfitting West Bay’s newly-renovated Golden Age Home.
Club Vice-President Yvette Cacho and President Tricia Cacho presented the funds to Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Adult Special Needs Programme Coordinator Dawn Rankine and Disaster -Coordinator Lynda Mitchell.
Tricia Cacho said that the Rotaract membership viewed the donation as being an excellent opportunity for the younger generation to give back to older residents who had sacrificed so much for the country.
She explained that money was raised through several fundraisers as well as through kind donations from businesses.
In thanking the young people, Ms. Rankine announced that in recognition of the club’s generosity, one of the retirement home’s rooms will be named the Rotaract Blue Suite.
She added that the cheque had come at an opportune time for the DCFS which was in the process of furnishing and accessorising the soon-to-be-re-opened home.
“On behalf of our older persons, I thank you for this gift; it is wonderful to know that younger persons have not forgotten our seniors,” Ms. Rankine concluded.
