A number of lucky children will receive school supplies for the September term thanks to the generosity of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens.

Club representatives donated a cheque for CI$500 to the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) on Thursday (20 August) to assist families with purchasing back-to-school supplies.

President of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Melrose Gooding made the presentation to DCFS Director Deanna Look Loy at the DCFS Eastern Avenue office.

Ms. Gooding explained that the donation was part of the club’s on-going outreach activities.

“Our service club customarily helps a number of lower-income families, but this year, we decided to change the approach and channel the funds through the DCFS because they are strategically placed to reach more persons in need,” Ms. Gooding said.

Mrs. Look Loy thanked the Lions Club members for their generosity and noted that donations are appreciated more than ever during this time of economic recession and limited funds.

Also attending the presentation were DCFS Disaster Services Coordinator Lynda Mitchell, and Chairperson for the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Early Childhood and Youth Committee, Jondo Obi.
