(L-R) The – Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman’s Assistant Director of Loss Prevention Kurt Christian; Police Inspector Anthony White; Hotel and Condominium Association Manager Trina Christian; Police Commissioner David Baines, and Community Relations Officer Constable Brandughn Phillips.

Tourism managers and senior Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) officials came together this week to discuss solutions to crime in the tourism sector.

Police Commissioner David Baines and other senior officers outlined ways to better protect guests, facilities and employees along West Bay Road.

A range of “crimes of opportunity” in this main tourism area has increased recently – from vehicle thefts to burglaries. RCIPS Inspector Anthony White said these crimes can be deterred to some extent.
The officials also spoke in detail of the difference between the reality of the current situation, and the often-exaggerated perceptions and fears.

Representatives of hotels, condos and other businesses attended, as did representatives of the Department of Tourism and the Hotel and Condominium Association. Their concerns included nightclub noise and the distribution of advertising flyers; burglaries; robberies; assaults; and drug offences.
