(L-R) District Commissioner Ernie Scott, Acting Premier the Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, RFA Wave Ruler Captain Shaun Jones, and His Excellency the Governor Duncan Taylor, CBE.

Local officials were the guests of honour at an informal reception aboard the Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessel RFA Wave Ruler Tuesday evening (30 November). The event also marked the end of the 2010 hurricane season, during which the ship provided assistance and relief to several Caribbean islands.

Captain Shaun Jones and his crew extended hospitality to His Excellency the Governor Duncan Taylor, CBE, and Mrs. Marie Taylor; as well as Acting Premier the Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly; Sister Islands’ District Commissioner Ernie Scott; and representatives of Hazard Management Cayman Islands; the Cayman Islands Red Cross, Government Information Services, the Port Authority, and other agencies.

During the Cayman visit this week RFA Wave Ruler will top-up its disaster relief stores, as it is remaining on-station in the Caribbean. Grand Cayman is the storage site for the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID) emergency response items.

The local DFID storage is the responsibility of the Cayman Islands Red Cross. The stores include family hygiene kits, cots, generators, and water containers.

Instead of anchoring offshore, the vessel is moored at Jackson Point, off South Sound, as has been the practice in recent times.
