This weekend’s visit of the Royal Navy’s RFA Wave Ruler marks the end of the 2010 hurricane season.

This weekend’s visit of the Royal Navy’s fleet auxiliary vessel RFA Wave Ruler to Grand Cayman is especially welcome.

The visit, from Saturday, 27 November through Friday, 3 December, marks the end of the 2010 hurricane season. RFA Wave Ruler however is remaining on-station in the Caribbean and will top-up its’ disaster relief stores during the visit.

Local storage of the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID) items is the responsibility of the Cayman Islands Red Cross. The stores include family hygiene kits, cots, generators, and water containers.

Equally important, the vessel’s break in Cayman will allow the crew some well-deserved rest and recreation.

In addition, the Wave Ruler’s Commanding Officer, Captain Shaun Jones will make courtesy calls on local officials, accompanied by the UK’s Caribbean Defence Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel Chris Gunning.

They will meet with His Excellency Governor Duncan Taylor, CBE; Deputy Governor Donovan Ebanks, MBE; and Chief Officer in the Portfolio of Internal & External Affairs, Franz Manderson.

Others on the courtesy call agenda include Hazard Management Cayman Islands Director McCleary Frederick; Cayman Islands Red Cross Disaster Manager Hemant Balgobin and members of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service’s Marine Unit.
