Eighteen John Gray High School students absorbed numerous details of Cayman’s cultural heritage last Friday (27 November).

They toured the recently-refurbished National Museum to view artefacts and learn about the natural and cultural history of the Islands.

Accompanied by John Gray Reading Specialist Reina Jefferson, teacher Dericka Ebanks, Head Boy Brian Watler and Head Girl Abigail Bush, the youngsters visited the natural and cultural history galleries, as well as the art display area.

Tour guide Jaime Azan provided information on the new bathymetric display which reveals ocean depths, as well as the display featuring prominent Caymanian catboat operator Harvey Ebanks.

Afterwards the students retreated to the theatre room to watch a short film on Cayman.

Ms. Jefferson explained that the tour resulted from the school’s decision to expose all Year 10 students to local culture. Webster’s Transport contributed to the visit by transporting the students without charge.

Free tours are offered to schools through the National Museum’s Education Outreach Programme. Interested persons may contact Nasaria Suckoo-Chollette at the nasariachollette [at] museum [dot] ky or 929-8368.
