Two recent high school graduates have chosen the Department of Immigration as their preferred place of employment.
Although from opposite ends of Grand Cayman, Taneisha Welcome and Abbagail Fish both recently completed business studies at the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre.
Miss Welcome of East End said she has always been interested in a career with immigration. Similarly, Miss Fish, who is from West Bay, said, “I‘m convinced that by working with this department I can be a part of the change process in the Cayman Islands.”
Welcoming the duo, Chief Immigration Officer Linda Evans said, “Both Abbagail and Taneisha have much potential to be a significant part of our team. They have applied themselves and taken initiative – even while they were on work experience. We are always happy to recruit young people who will serve the country with distinction.”
From October 2010 through June of this year the ladies attended bi-weekly work experience sessions with the department. During that period they were exposed to the departmental operations – from the customer-service counter to assisting behind the scenes by scanning and updating files.
Both young ladies then chose to intern with Immigration this summer. Miss Fish was placed in the Human Resources Department.
Following the internship, they applied for recently-advertised entry-level vacancies. Both were successful with their interviews and are now employed as processing clerks in the Board and Work Permit Administration section.
The ambitious duo plan to continue their studies at the Civil Service College, UCCI.
