Tsunami Watch Excludes Cayman

The Cayman Islands is not included in a tsunami watch, following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Haiti this afternoon (Tuesday, 12 January).

Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) Director McCleary Frederick confirmed that the National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has issued a watch for Haiti, Cuba, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Frederick said local officials are monitoring the situation, and will update the public on significant developments.
