Combatting childhood obesity, the Ministry of Health, Environment, Youth, Sports and Culture has partnered with local non-governmental organisation AMF Partners to air The Big Hurt.
This is the first programme in a two-part series which highlights the rapidly-expanding problem of childhood obesity.
“Our country is faced with the reality that more than 27 percent of its children under the age of 6 and almost 38 percent of its students aged between 11 and 14 are classified as overweight. It is time for action,” said Health Minister the Hon. Mark Scotland.
Through the eyes of four youngsters, The Big Hurt explores what obese children have to endure, how they struggle on a daily basis and how they are made to feel isolated.
But the show also offers solutions, and Minister Scotland urges parents to watch with their children: “The health risks associated with obesity are significant. However, I do believe that we can and should tackle this problem together because everyone deserves to live a healthy life, rich in quality.
“So do the right thing for you and your family; take this show to heart and start making healthy choices.”
The Big Hurt will air Monday, 10 May at 7:30 p.m. on Island24 and again on Tuesday, 11 May at 6:30 p.m. on Cayman27.
