Cayman Celebrates the Queen’s 85th

The Fire Service Detachment took part in the annual parade in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Cayman Islands today (Saturday, 11 June) celebrated the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Senior government officials gathered with other dignitaries and members of the public to observe the ceremony, held in front of the Legislative Assembly building in George Town.

The programme included the traditional parade by uniformed services, a royal salute, 21-gun salute and three cheers for Queen Elizabeth II.

Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) was presented to Mr. D. Kurt Tibbetts, JP. Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) was presented to Mr. W. Kemuel Jackson, Mrs. Mary Lawrence, JP and Mr. Alden McLaughlin, Jr., JP.

Mr. Doorly McLaughlin was awarded the Colonial Police and Fire Service Medal (CPM). The Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour were received by Mrs. Jackie Balls, Mrs. Mary Blake, Mrs. Celeste Broderick, Ms. Reba Dilbert, Mrs. Penny McDowall and Mrs. Ellen Sherman.

In addition, the awards for Mr. Tibbetts, Mr. McLaughlin, Jr., Mrs. Balls, Mrs. Broderick, Mrs. McDowall and Mr. Doorly McLaughlin were announced at last year’s Queen’s birthday celebrations (12 June 2010). The other awards were announced in January this year.

Thereafter the Honourable Acting Governor Donovan Ebanks, MBE announced the Queen’s Birthday Honourees for 2011: Mrs. Marjorie Bodden; Ms. Maxine Ethel and Ms. Maureen Helen Bodden; Mr. Lendell Layman and Mr. Philip David Glanmor Thomas. All received the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour (Cert. Hon.).
