Personnel from the Royal Navy’s fleet auxiliary vessel RFA Wave Ruler made a stop at the Cayman Islands Red Cross Thursday (2 December).

Ship’s Commanding Officer Navy Captain Shaun Jones and British Defence Attaché for the Cayman Islands Lt. Col. Christopher Gunnings called on Red Cross Disaster Manager Hemant Balgobin at the organisation’s headquarters in George Town.

The main purpose of the Red Cross visit was to replenish the ship’s stock of relief supplies, in particular water purification tablets which became depleted following operations in St. Lucia after Hurricane Tomas.

The RFA Wave Ruler visited the Cayman Islands from Saturday, 27 November, through Friday, 3 December, to mark the end of the 2010 hurricane season.

Local UK Department of International Development (DFID) storage is the responsibility of the Cayman Islands Red Cross. The stores include family hygiene kits, cots, generators, and water containers.
