Cayman Celebrates Queen’s Birthday

His Excellency the Governor Duncan Taylor, CBE, inspects the Cub Scouts.

The Cayman Islands today (Saturday, 12 June) celebrated the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Senior government officials gathered with other dignitaries and members of the public to observe the ceremony, held in front of the Legislative Assembly building in George Town. The programme included the traditional parade by uniformed services, a royal salute, 21-gun salute and three cheers for Queen Elizabeth II.

Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) was presented to Ms. Edna Moyle. The Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour was also received by Ms. Betty Louise Baraud, Dr. Elsa Maria Cummings-Williams, Mr. Julian Nicholas Reddyhough and Ms. Sharon Elaine Roulstone. These awards were announced in June 2009.

Thereafter the Honourable Deputy Governor Donovan Ebanks, MBE announced the Queen’s Birthday Honourees for 2010. Mr. Darwin Kurt Tibbetts, JP is to be made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division) (OBE); Mr. Alden McNee McLaughlin Jr., JP is appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and the Colonial Police and Fire Service Medal (CPFSM) goes to Deputy Chief Fire Officer Hulman Doorly McLaughlin of the Cayman Islands Fire Service.

Three persons are also to receive the Cayman Islands Certificate and Badge of Honour (Cert. Hon.) -- Mrs. Jackie Balls, Mrs. Celeste Broderick and Mrs. Penny McDowall.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at Government House, hosted by His Excellency the Governor Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE and his wife Marie Beatrice Taylor. This reception was also open to the public.
