Deputy Governor Mr. Donovan Ebanks, MBE, JP, welcomes His Excellency the Governor Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, to the Government Administration Building.

The Cayman Islands’ 11th Governor, His Excellency Duncan Taylor, CBE, spent much of his first day in office touring the Government Administration Building and meeting numerous civil servants.

Accompanied by Deputy Governor Donovan Ebanks, MBE, JP, the visit started in Mr. Ebanks’ office and ended some three hours later in the Treasury Department. The Governor even managed to fit in a slice of cassava cake prepared by Elorine Augustine’s mother.

But while getting to know government and its employees stand high on his list of priorities, Mr. Taylor stressed his determination to get to know other locals too.

“My first goal is to get out and meet as many people as possible. Face to face is always best. I want to understand what residents around these islands feel and care about,” he said.

The new Governor will spend much of this week calling on officials such as the Leader of the Opposition and Chief Justice, but he will also visit districts. Bodden Town will be the first on his list.
