The new home of the National Gallery on the Esterley Tibbetts Highway comes alive at the opening.

The week starting Monday, 13 February, GIS Spotlight tours a national treasure trove, captures art in action and revisits technological advances at HMP.

First, we stop at the beautiful new home of the National Gallery now open to all. Join us to hear how it all began and how the journey to reach this impressive destination unfolded over the years.

See the exciting features inside and out that help to consolidate the dream of the donors, notably Mrs. Helen Harquail. Learn what characterises it as the people’s gallery.

Then, we are off to Government House on West Bay Road for a fun and colourful annual event, Art@theGovernor’s. Join in the vibrant energy and artistic expression, especially of Cayman’s students who took part in huge numbers.

Hear from His Excellency the Governor what enthuses him and his wife about art and creativity in general as well as the rich display of artistic expression in the Cayman Islands, especially among the young.

For our last stop, we revisit Her Majesty’s Prison at Northward to view new technology that eliminates transporting remand prisoners to court and back, saving time, money and manpower. See how inmates on remand can depose in court cases and instruct their attorneys without leaving the prison.

The weekly programme airs on Cayman27 at 8 p.m. on Monday and 6 p.m. on Saturday. All stories seen in this week’s show can also be found on the GIS Marketing and Communications website: www.gis.ky.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing Spotlight [at] gov [dot] ky.
