Evacuation after Hurricane Ivan taught many lessons.

This week we spotlight government agencies’ hurricane evacuation plans, we admire a primary school’s new look and we join the Get-in-Shape gang for a reunion.

This hurricane season promises to be busy, prompting GIS Spotlight to explore the Islands’ evacuation plans for both visitors and residents. We talk to the experts at Hazard Management Cayman Islands and the Cayman Islands Airports Authority to find out how and when they will evacuate people in the face of an approaching storm. Also, discover the lessons officials learned from past hurricanes and find out what you should know and do this storm season.

Our next stop is the John A. Cumber Primary School where volunteers with the Do Something World-Cayman Festival made a lasting impact by adding 3,500 sq. ft. of classroom space. Tune in as we explore how this project will benefit students, teachers and the wider community.

In our final feature, we update you on the GIS Get-in-Shape participant’s progress. Now that the official health and fitness programme has ended, find out who has maintained a healthy lifestyle and whose health regime has fizzled out. And don’t miss some great tips on beating boredom by spicing up your diet. We also talk about staying motivated to make lasting life-improving changes.

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government’s services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you. The weekly programme airs on Mondays at 6:30 pm on Cayman27, and again on Thursdays at 7:30 pm on Island24. All the stories seen in this week’s edition can also be found on YouTube at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/user/CIGovtInfoServices.
