The Public Transport Unit (PTU) will open for business at a new location and with a new director come November.

On Friday, 30 October, the old office at Cricket Square will close for relocation, and the new office will open in unit 17, 2nd Floor, Rankin’s Plaza on Monday, 2 November. Heading up the unit will be career civil servant and former Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) Inspector Durk Banks.

Hailing originally from Cayman Brac, Mr. Banks brings 23-years experience to the unit from the RCIPS where he last served at the helm of the traffic management unit.

His primary duties as PTU director will be overseeing and guiding the unit’s work, and providing operational direction to the Public Transport Board.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in administration from the International College of the Cayman Islands, a law degree from the University of Liverpool, and completed the Cayman Islands Law School’s Legal Practitioners Course with commendation.

“I’m very pleased that my ministry has made this move a priority,” Minister with responsibility for Transport, the Hon. McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP, said. “The new office provides a better working environment for staff, and adequate accommodation to serve the public.”

“I extend a warm welcome to Mr. Banks and look forward to the expertise he will bring to the unit.”

The Public Transport Unit was established to manage Cayman’s public transportation system, which includes taxies, tour vehicles, omnibuses, church and school buses, limousine operators, shuttle/courtesy vehicles and water sports vessels.
