In Cayman Brac, it was time to learn the importance of being counted.
The official launch of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman’s Census 2010 publicity campaign took place on the grounds of the District Administration building this morning (Thursday, 22 April 2010).
Speakers from the Hon. Acting Premier, Mrs. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, JP, MLA Mr. Moses Kirkconnell, JP, Economics and Statistics Office Director Ms Maria Zingapan and District Commissioner Mr. Ernie Scott, JP to Census 2010 spokespersons Pastor Davelee Tibbetts and Mrs. Chevala Burke highlighted the significance of a national population and housing count for Cayman.
The census will also provide valuable insight whether the current level of public services are in line with the present population, the Acting Premier noted. The speakers also emphasised that everyone is important when it comes to the census which begins on 10 October, and urged all in the Sister Islands to provide accurate details to census enumerators.
Cayman currently lacks detailed population demographics and statistics, which hinders proper planning for the Islands’ future, the speakers stressed. Census 2010 will provide this baseline data for the first time. So make sure to be counted, they urged.
The festive celebration featured colourful balloons, bright t-shirts, banners and a video presentation by GIS Marketing and Communications that outlined the value of the national census. Brackers also enjoyed the official Census 2010 jingle performed by Cayman Brac High School students and ESO staff.
Following the event, a number of attendees signed up, hoping to work as one of the 15-20 census enumerators required to cover the Sister Islands.
