With the National Conservation Law back on the table, the Department of Environment has scheduled seven district meetings to give residents a chance to explore the proposed legislation.
“Cayman’s current conservation legislation is badly outdated and it is important that we replace it with a law that gives government relevant and effective tools to manage environmental issues that the country is facing,” said DOE Director Gina Ebanks-Petrie.
She continued, “We also realise the importance of everyone understanding and supporting what is being proposed.
“That’s why we want people to come out to the district meetings to seek answers to any questions they have about the proposed legislation. That way, they will be in position to provide informed feedback on the proposed National Conservation Law.”
Mrs. Ebanks-Petrie also encouraged people to read the law and the summary guide before attending the meetings. These can be downloaded at www.doe.ky .
The public consultation period will last a month, closing on Friday, 16 July. Until then, anyone can comment on the legislation.
Comment forms are available online at www.doe.ky and printed copies can be picked up from the DoE’s office or at any of the district public meetings.
