This year’s summer camp programme in Cayman Brac was a resounding success.
Sister Islands Department of Sports Instructor Mitchum Sanford disclosed that 111 youngsters on the island had participated in sports-related summer camps.
He said that 42 children attended the basketball camp held at the Cayman Brac High School court, while 39 benefited from the government pool swim camp. A football (soccer) camp at the Bluff field also attracted an additional 30 young people.
Deputy Premier and Minister for District Administration, the Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, JP supported the camps and visited to watch some of the activities.
“I am delighted by the number of children who were reached through this year’s sports programmes,” she said.
The Minister further noted that getting children involved in sporting activities is a key step in fostering discipline, healthy attitudes and a competitive spirit.
“It is important that we channel the energies of our young people in positive directions, preparing them to be tomorrow’s good citizens,” she said.
