The Constitutional Commission begins a series of district public meetings in North Side on Thursday, 7th April at the North Side Civic Centre at 7 p.m.
The Constitutional Commission is charged with the responsibility of promoting understanding and awareness of the Constitution and its values as a whole.
The Commission has developed a comprehensive work plan to carry out its work and has met with key stakeholders during their initial public education phase.
This was in order to identify any concerns that these stakeholders had about the contents of the Cayman Islands Constitution Order 2009 and any suggested changes they would like to see in the future.
These stakeholder meetings were completed in 2010 and are included in the Commission’s first report which was released in September 2010 and is available on the Commission’s website www.knowyourconstitution.ky
The Commission is now engaging the wider community in each district in public discussions on constitutional matters.
These meetings will allow members of the public to ask questions about, and gain a better understanding of the Constitution as a document that affects their daily lives.
Meeting dates and times have been confirmed in the following districts:
• Thursday, 7th April, 7-9 p.m. North Side Civic Centre
• Thursday, 14th April, 7-9 p.m. East End Civic Centre
• Thursday, 5th May, 7-9 p.m., Bodden Town Civic Centre
• Thursday, 19th May, 7-9 p.m., South Sound Civic Centre
Meetings are planned in June for the districts of West Bay and the Sister Islands.
The public is encouraged to exercise their freedom to become
better informed and more involved in the development of constitutional matters.
Every voice is valuable in the interpretation of constitutional advancements.
