This week (Monday, 23 May) GIS Spotlight reviews a new college preparation programme, hears more about the Streetskill road safety strategy, and goes behind the scenes of a unique multi-agency disaster preparedness exercise.
At the end of Year 11, students head either to the University College of the Cayman Islands or to one of the private high schools to do their ‘A’ levels. Now, a new offering at the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) proposes another option: the Advanced Placement Programme.
Hear how students can earn credits and prepare for colleges in both North America and the United Kingdom.
Next, we hear Streetskill committee members explain why road safety is everyone’s responsibility. They focus specifically on the dangers of driving while texting or talking on cell phones, and further note that police officers will be keeping a eye out for offenders.
Our last stop is the National Emergency Operations Centre where Hazard Management Cayman Islands staff and other partners recently managed three emergency exercises at once: Hurricane Stretch, a plane crash, and shuttering government buildings.
