This week on GIS Spotlight we meet a proud new homeowner courtesy of the National Housing Development Trust (NHDT); we tag along with National Drug Survey volunteers, plus we find out why vaccination is still considered ‘an act of love.’
Our first stop is the Cole family’s brand new house in East End. It was built with help from the NHDT, the organization working to accomplish its mandate of providing affordable housing to Cayman’s people. While the Coles built their residence on their pre-owned property, we also explore what the Trust can do to assist those without land to fulfill their dream of homeownership.
Next, we follow the National Drug Council’s volunteers as they survey the drug habits of school students. We’ll hear from the students themselves what they think about the survey and drug use, and we’ll listen to the interview with the NDC’s Simon Miller. He’ll explain why a survey is important, and how the Council plans to use the information.
And then it’s on to this year’s Vaccination Week in the Americas, celebrated from 24 April to 1 May under the theme Vaccination – An Act of Love. To understand the continued need for immunization, we ask public health officials how vaccines save lives and probe some of the possible side effects. So tune in to hear them discuss some common myths and misconceptions about vaccination.
