This week GIS Spotlight explores safety rules for boaters, meets an accounting mentor and finds out why everyone should be counted.
Surrounded by some of the world’s most inviting waters, Cayman is a boater’s paradise. However, there are some rules you should follow to make every nautical experience safe.So tune is as we talk to officers from the RCIPS Marine Unit and the Port Authority’s Harbour Patrol on the do’s and don’ts of boating. They explain float plans, emergency equipment and others steps you can take to safeguard all on board.
Next we meet local accounting student Michael Rivers and his mentor (and Maples Finance’s Chief Financial Officer) Arthur Dzaghgouni to find out how they are both benefiting from the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) E-mentor programme. And while we understand that the programme serves as an invaluable link between classroom learning and field practice, we also discover that participants learn far more than accounting principles.
Finally, we join the Economic and Statistics Office road show as staff visit school and college students and administer mock surveys. Find out why statistics are important, how governments and businesses use numbers to plan for the future, and why everyone should participate in this year’s national census scheduled to start 4 October.
