Cayman’s high school students are in for a change.

This week GIS Spotlight returns to school to study an educational transition, tracks weather changes and explores the value of the Petroleum Inspectorate.

Secondary education in the Cayman Islands is set for an overhaul. Join us as we find out what this will mean to George Hicks and John Gray high schools’ teachers, students and parents. We’ll tell you what the changes will look like. Plus you’ll hear Education Ministry Chief Officer Mary Rodrigues tell how the restructuring will benefit students.

For more information on the transition, go to the Ministry of Education’s blog at http://buildingexcellencetogether.blogspot.com/. Comments and questions can be sent to set [at] des [dot] edu [dot] ky or Desmond [dot] McConvey [at] gov [dot] ky.

Then stop in on the Department of Environment’s latest climate change workshop. See how meteorologists receive hands-on training in using region-specific weather models to predict the effects of climate change on Caribbean countries.

We’ll ask the experts to explain why weather models are important, how they can help us plan for the future and why governments should pay attention to data delivered through these prediction models.

Next, jump in as we hit the road with a Petroleum Inspectorate crew to find out exactly what they do. Expect to be surprised at the way this small unit silently works to keep Cayman safe.

Produced by Government Information Services, GIS Spotlight highlights government’s services and solutions regarding issues that concern and affect you. The weekly programme airs on Mondays at 6:30 p.m. on Cayman27, and again on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. on Island24. All the stories seen in this week’s edition can also be found on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/CIGovtInfoServices.

Comments and suggestions about the programme are always welcome. Viewers can provide feedback by e-mailing heather [dot] hopson [at] gov [dot] ky.
