GIS Spotlight
Highlighting Government Services
A fifteen-minute programme airing twice weekly, GIS Spotlight focuses its lenses on government ministries, departments, programmes and policies which are making a difference. In addition to airing on local television, each GIS Spotlight story is uploaded to the internet for convenient viewing on www.youtube.com/CIGovtInfoServices. Exploring and explaining how government transforms lives and our community, GIS Spotlight has presented stories on tourism, the environment, education, community development, public works, heath and much, much more – from health insurance to pensions, skateboarding to turtle nests, entrepreneurs to tourism’s PRIDE. Viewers also enjoy segments such as the Cayman Quiz which test viewers’ knowledge of local heritage and culture and the annual Senior’s Salute which celebrates older persons in our community. Early in 2009, GIS Spotlight celebrated a major milestone – its 100th episode. In addition to much positive feedback from our viewers, GIS Spotlight has also won regional awards for excellence in programming. In 2008, the programme received the prestigious Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) Award for Excellence in Journalism in the Best Feature-Documentary category for “HSA Goes Smoke-Free” In 2009, the show won two awards in the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s annual competition: Best Regional Awareness–Panama Trade and Best News Feature–Building Brighter Futures Behind Bars.
