Crisis Communications
Effective communication during a crisis can mean the difference between life and death, between minimal financial loss and insurmountable damage to financial viability.
Since crises are a part of life, when man-made or natural disasters strike, GIS is there to help! Whether it’s a hurricane, a major investigation or a financial crisis, GIS is the experienced hand guiding your communications effort to reassure, inform and educate.
GIS’ corps of professional communicators works with client departments, as well as government as a whole, to ensure clear messages reach stakeholders.
GIS assists clients in putting in place proper crisis management plans to prevent minor issues from escalating into major crises. Emphasis is also placed on developing contingency plans which can be quickly activated in the management of a crisis.
GIS is also an integral part of national crisis management and response. The department is the communications hub of the National Hazard Management Council’s (NHMC) Joint Communications Service (JCS) and a member of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) policy group.
GIS’ team kicked into high gear for hurricanes Dean and Paloma in 2008. Officers worked 24-7 to keep the nation informed from pre-storm preparation, during response to the damage on the Sister islands, continuing through recovery.
In the midst of the noise, GIS provides a clear and consistent channel to keep you in touch when it matters most!
